History of Shaolin
🏯 Beginnings Shaolin Temple was founded around 495 AD during the Northern Wei Dynasty in Mount Song, China. The temple was originally built for an Indian monk named Batuo (also known as Buddhabhadra), who taught Buddhist teachings.
🧘 Bodhidharma's Influence Around the 6th century, a legendary monk named Bodhidharma arrived in Shaolin. He is known as the founder of Zen (Chan) Buddhism. According to legend, He meditated for nine years facing a wall. He introduced physical exercises to increase the monks' stamina. These exercises later developed into the foundation of Shaolin kung fu.
