The Way a Machine Gun Works
The way a machine gun works essentially harnesses the energy from each shot to continuously repeat the firing cycle automatically.
π Machine gun operation cycle Every time a bullet is fired, a series of rapid processes occur:
Trigger is pressed → trigger mechanism releases the first bullet Bullet is fired → gunpowder ignites, producing high-pressure gas Energy is used to drive the mechanism → can come from: gas (gas-operated) recoil Cartridge ejects → empty cartridge is ejected from the chamber New bullet is fed → from the magazine or belt Locking & ready to fire again → bolt returns to position, ready to fire again
π As long as the trigger is pressed, this cycle continues to repeat very rapidly.
