4 Important Functions The Protein For Human

Protein has many important functions in the human body. It is made up of amino acids and acts as a “building block” for almost every part of your body, including muscles, skin, organs, and blood. 

1. Building and repairing tissues
Protein is the main material for building and repairing body tissues, such as muscles, skin, hair, nails, bones, and internal organs. 

When you exercise, get injured, or grow (for example during childhood, pregnancy, or recovery from illness), your body uses extra protein to repair and rebuild damaged cells. 

2. Making enzymes and hormones
Many enzymes in the body are proteins that speed up chemical reactions, such as digestion of food and energy production. 
Proteins are also the basis of some hormones, which control processes like metabolism, growth, and blood sugar balance. 

3. Supporting the immune system
Proteins form antibodies that help your immune system recognize and destroy bacteria, viruses, and other harmful invaders. 
Without enough protein, your body may produce fewer antibodies and become more vulnerable to infections. 

4. Transporting and storing nutrients
Some proteins carry important molecules through the blood, like oxygen (hemoglobin), vitamins, minerals, cholesterol, and glucose. 
Others help store nutrients inside cells until they are needed, such as iron–storage proteins in the liver.
