Bombardier Beetle
The bombardier beetle is famous for its unique defense system, which works like a tiny natural “chemical bomb.”
🔬 How It Works
Inside the beetle’s abdomen, there are two important chemicals:
Hydrogen peroxide
Hydroquinone
When the beetle feels threatened:
These chemicals are mixed in a special chamber
Enzymes trigger a rapid chemical reaction
This reaction produces heat and pressure
💥 The “Explosion” Effect
The temperature can reach around 100°C (boiling point)
The liquid is sprayed out with high pressure
It makes a popping sound like “pop-pop”
The beetle can aim the spray at its attacker
🛡️ Purpose
To defend itself from predators like spiders or frogs
The hot, irritating spray scares enemies away
It can repeat this action multiple times
