Drinks and herbs
Drink more water – dehydration is a usual cause of headaches, so drinking enough water or eating fruits and vegetables with high water content (like watermelon, cucumber, and celery) can help the pain go away.
Ginger tea – ginger has anti‑inflammatory effects and is traditionally used to reduce headache and migraine pain; you can steep fresh ginger in hot water and drink it slowly.
Herbal teas – chamomile, green tea, and sage tea can relax the body and slightly reduce headache intensity, especially if it is related to stress or tension.
Aromatherapy and essential oils
Lavender or peppermint oil – applying a small drop of diluted lavender or peppermint oil on the temples, or inhaling the steam from a bowl of hot water with a few drops of oil, may help relax nerves and reduce headache.
Clove or eucalyptus – clove oil mixed with a carrier oil (like coconut oil) on the forehead, or eucalyptus steam inhalation, can ease sinus‑type or tension headaches.
Physical and lifestyle methods
Cold or warm compress – for migraines, a cold pack on the forehead or back of the neck can reduce inflammation and numb the pain; for tension headaches, a warm towel on the neck or shoulders helps relax tight muscles.
Rest in a quiet, dark room – loud noises and bright light often worsen headaches, especially migraines, so resting in a calm, dim place can relieve symptoms.
Massage and stretching – gentle massage of the temples, neck, and shoulders, plus slow stretching or yoga, can loosen tense muscles and reduce tension‑type headache
