Object with the Heaviest Specific Gravity

Osmium stands as the material with the highest density among naturally occurring stable elements on Earth. Its density measures about 22.59 g/cm³ at room temperature, slightly surpassing iridium at 22.56 g/cm³, making it roughly twice as dense as lead. This places osmium at the top of the list for densest everyday substances.

Why Osmium Leads
Osmium's extreme density arises from its tightly packed atomic structure in a hexagonal close-packed lattice. Discovered in 1803, it's a rare platinum-group metal, hard and brittle with a bluish-gray hue, often used in alloys for fountain pen tips or electrical contacts due to its durability. While neutron stars or black holes exhibit far higher densities in theory, osmium reigns for practical, terrestrial materials

These values confirm osmium's position, though measurements can vary slightly by conditions like temperature.
