Several Plants To Help Treat Acne

Several plants are traditionally used to help treat acne due to their anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and soothing properties. While scientific evidence varies, these can be applied topically or consumed with caution, ideally after consulting a dermatologist.

Aloe Vera
Aloe vera gel soothes inflamed skin and fights acne-causing bacteria like Cutibacterium acnes. Studies show it reduces redness and promotes healing when applied directly from the leaf.
Tea Tree
Tea tree oil exhibits strong antibacterial effects against P. acnes and helps reduce acne lesions. Dilute it with a carrier oil to avoid irritation before spot treatment.

Witch Hazel
American witch hazel (Hamamelis virginiana) contains tannins that provide anti-inflammatory benefits and tighten pores. Use as a toner after cleansing for daily acne management.

Green Tea
Green tea (Camellia sinensis) extract lowers sebum production and calms inflammation due to its polyphenols. Apply cooled tea bags or a diluted extract to affected areas.

Echinacea
Echinacea purpurea kills P. acnes bacteria and reverses inflammation in lab studies. Its extracts can be used in creams for acne-prone skin.
