Understanding Positive and Negative Sentences in English

English, positive sentences say that something is true or happens, while negative sentences say that something is not true or does not happen.

What is a positive sentence?
A positive sentence states a fact or a situation in a normal, affirmative way.

Examples:
I like pizza.
She plays the piano very well.
They go to school every day.
He is a good student.
We live in Medan.
In simple present tense, the basic pattern is:
Subject + verb (add -s/-es for he/she/it).

What is a negative sentence?
A negative sentence says that something does not happen or is not true. We usually use not or its short form n’t.

Examples:
I do not / don’t like broccoli.
She does not / doesn’t play tennis.
They do not / don’t go to the mall today.
He is not / isn’t at home now.
We are not / aren’t busy right now.
For simple present tense with be (am/is/are):
Subject + am/is/are + not + complement.
