History of the Founding of the Soviet Union
The Soviet Union (USSR) was founded following the October Revolution of 1917, when Bolsheviks led by Vladimir Lenin overthrew the Russian Provisional Government that had replaced Tsar Nicholas II. This established the Russian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic (Russian SFSR), the world's first constitutionally communist state.
The USSR initially consisted of 4 republics: Russian SFSR, Transcaucasian SFSR, Ukrainian SSR, and Byelorussian SSR. Under Lenin, it quickly became a one-party state under the Communist Party
