Pigments In The Human Body

Pigments in the human body are natural substances that give color to tissues and cells. The most important one is melanin, which gives color to the skin, hair, and eyes and helps protect the skin from UV radiation.

Other important body pigments include hemoglobin in red blood cells, which gives blood its red color and carries oxygen, and bilirubin, which is a yellow pigment formed from the breakdown of red blood cells. Pigments are not only about appearance; they also support important body functions such as protection, oxygen transport, and waste processing.
