The Largest Flower in the World

The largest single flower in the world is Rafflesia arnoldii. It grows in the rainforests of Sumatra, Indonesia, and can reach about 1 meter across, with some specimens measured even larger.

About the flower
Rafflesia arnoldii is a parasitic plant with a very unusual bloom. It is also often called the corpse flower because of its strong smell.

Why it is famous
It is considered the largest individual flower in the world, while the titan arum is larger overall but is technically an inflorescence, not a single flower.

Interesting fact
A specimen found in West Sumatra in January 2020 measured 111 cm across, which helped confirm its record status.
