Typical Mongolian Foods

Traditional Mongolian food is simple yet filling, primarily based on meat, dairy products, and carbohydrates to survive the cold climate. Here are some typical Mongolian dishes.

1. Buuz Buuz are steamed dumplings filled with minced lamb or beef, seasoned simply with salt and onions. It is one of the most popular everyday foods and is also served on major holidays such as Tsagaan Sar (Mongolian New Year). 

2. Khuushuur Khuushuur are fried meat dumplings, similar to pastries or empanadas, with a flat shape and a crispy brown crust. The filling is usually lamb or beef and is often eaten at festivals such as Naadam.

3. Tsuivan Tsuivan is a fried noodle dish made from wheat or potato noodles, meat (usually lamb or beef), and vegetables. It is a filling main course and is commonly eaten in homes and restaurants, especially in the winter.

4. Khorkhog Khorkhog is a "Mongolian barbecue" made by stacking lamb and hot stones in a covered pot and steaming them together. The result is tender, smoky meat that is often served at celebrations and family gatherings.
